A free English library built for phones and quiet reading

Most “free book” sites either hide a download behind pop-ups or wrap a copyrighted file in a grey template. FreeReadsy is narrower on purpose. We only list English works that have entered the public domain, mainly through Project Gutenberg. That lets you read Pride and Prejudice, Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes, Darwin, and Sun Tzu without guessing whether the file is legal.

Each book page carries an original introduction, genre links, and two clear actions: read in the browser, or download an EPUB to use in any reader app. Pages are typeset for a phone-width screen first, with large tap targets, readable type, and covers that do not jump while they load. The same catalog works on a tablet or a laptop — there is no separate “mobile site.”

The library grows when a title is added from the public catalog. Nothing here is a substitute for buying living authors. If you want a modern novel, buy it from the publisher. If you want a classic you can keep forever, start with the catalog.
